Nice and handy . Nice and handy. I took this India when I was travelling and could make calls to US from whereever there is a machine with USB port and broadband internet connectivity. Its very easy to use - just plug and play. Only thing you need to ensure is if there are any proxies blocking the required ports. I found that issue only once (Internet Service Provider specific issue), but usually it is not the case.

Works like its supposed to . This little gadget works like it's supposed to. Don't expect the biggest and the best, this isn't it. But it works and will get you through if not a little better than that.

Can come in handy when traveling . I plan on doing some traveling where I will not be able to use my Vonage device so I ordered this item.
I found out that on my laptop with a USB 3.0 device inserted, the V-Phone works so much better than on USB 2 connectected directly to the computer. It was SLOW if connected to a USB hub and probably won't work for making phone calls. Since the software to run the device is on the V-Phone, it will take time to boot up and start working. It also took over the sound on my laptop so it came through the V-Phone only. I may have been able to stop that but if I am actually using the device, I doubt I could have used the phone function that way.

To add a new device to your Vonage account, you do need to call them the first time so they can add it. Afterwards you can switch to any registered device already present on your account yourself.

Technology at Its Best . This nifty little product is a good example of technology at its best. The reception is extremely good. Works well with a desktop, but would work extremely well with a laptop if you desire mobility.
This item is good . We recently purchased the V-Phone and it is working fine till date. the voice is clear without any noise. As the item is portable we could carry it anywhere and hook it to the internet to use it. Overall am happy using it.

Not as advertised . Before buying this item I called Vonage and asked how it worked. I was told that if I was already a Vonage subscriber that I could just associate the device with my account by calling them with the MAC address and it would begin to work whenever I plugged it into a computer with an internet connection. When I would unplug it, the home phone would resume working again. No extra charges would apply.
If that were true I would be pretty happy with the device, but several steps were left out of this rosy picture. After buying the device each new tech person I talked to told me a different version of how it really was supposed to work.
Based on my original understanding I thought I could just bring it to work and plug it in at the beginning of the shift and unplug it at the end of the shift. No way.
Each time you plug it in you must login to the Vonage site with your username and password and "move" the number from your home adapter to the V-phone and each time you unplug the device you must login again and move the connection back. If that wouldn't bother you, you should also know that you must retype the street address of your home and office over and over each time. It erases them instead of remembering where you are. This is a real pain in the behind. It would work if you were going on an extended vacation, but not for daily changes.
The sound quality is a little clippy, but understandable and the volume is fine. Unlike the web interface, the v-phone interface that appears when the unit is plugged in is pleasant and intuitive.
Perhaps if the the software "engineers" and Vonage would go back to engineering school and take a course in "human factors" there wouldn't be so many used V-phones on the market and perhaps if their support and sales people were trained to tell the truth buyers would be able to make informed decisions based on their needs. Vonage could take some simplicity lessons from Magic Jack.

Vonage V-Phone Support Sucks . I used to have the typical Vonage modem hard wired to a Linksys router for my VOIP service. I now maintain two homes so I went with a Sprint MiFi 2200 "hot spot" for my internet connections for two laptops and a desktop. After speaking with numerous Vonage techs about a wireless solution, one finally told me that the only solution would be to purchase the Vonage V-Phone. I could not figure out how to do that (couldn't find it) on the Vonage website so I purchased one from Amazon.com. When it arrived, I found out that it is not compatible with Windows 7 (my new laptop), so I tried to install it on my desktop (XP). It didn't work so I called Vonage Support and after talking with 4 different techs over the course of three days, nobody could get it to work on my desktop. In fact the last tech that I worked with told me that the V-Phone that I purchased from Amazon.com was defective and I needed to purchase a new one directly form Vonage. So I said go ahead and do that and lo and behold, the tech found out that Vonage has discontinued selling their V-Phone product...because it is defective and doesn't work for everyone (it does actually work for some people). So after speaking with techs from Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and local carriers and verifying that there is NO wireless solution currently available for VOIP, I was left with no choice but to cancel my Vonage VOIP service, after three years of pretty decent service. I just wish Vonage should have told me there that was NO solution available that works most of the time. They wasted a few weeks of my time. Very frustrating. And then I had to go through their admin support to adjust my bill, but that's another story that I won' go into full detail. In summary, I pay annually (over $300) and initially they weren't going to give me a credit for 10 months...but after complaining to three levels of management over two weeks (and having to follow up with them constantly), they decided to issue the credit.
Nightmare with Vonage service . There are many choices for VoIP service, don't settle for the worst by using Vonage. See comparison sties by doing a "VoIP comparison" search.

2. Vonage bills the service charge starting on the date you sign up an account, not the date their service is available. It takes a week or more for their equipment (telephone adapter) to arrive and for you to install it properly. During this time, you pay them for no services.
3. The 30-day money-back guarantee starts on the date your account is established, not the date you start using their services. Vonage even listed a phone sex service number on their policy website when I tried to contact them to cancel the service. I got burned by this and they charged me $119.98 for early termination plus one month of service that I didn't use.
4. I made a formal complaint and billing dispute by writing them a letter. It took them over 7 weeks to respond my complaint. Hopefully you won't come to this. But is this the kind of customer service you want for your phone service?

Then I paid Vonage over hundred dollars and hours of my time on writing letters and on the phone for humiliation and no phone services. My mistake was blind by their commercial without doing research and comparison. I hope that you can learn from my experience and shop for a better VoIP service provider for your need.

Decent phone service - terrible customer service . The service itself works well. However, in order to get you to sign up, they will tell you anything and make any promise it takes. When it comes time to deliver, they deny ever claiming the service has that particular feature or they inform you that the feature is extra. Their terrible customer service destroys any value their product has.
