Important detail not disclosed anywhere . I have owned several flash drives from the Lexar Jump Drive Secure lineup over the past few years, in different sizes. I have always found them to be excellent drives that are great for backing up my files on the go and keeping them secure just in case I ever misplaced them.
HOWEVER, on this particular model there is a very important detail that is not disclosed ANYWHERE on the packaging, in the product description on Amazon, or in the other reviews.
The drive is FAT32. FAT32 apparently does not support encrypted vaults larger than 4GB. The drive cannot be formatted NTFS because it is apparently too small to support it.
Maybe most people don't buy these drives with the intent to actually store 7-8 GB of encrypted data, but that is precisely the reason I bought this. Since it cannot do what I need it to do, I am returning it. Very disappointed in this ludicrous design limitation. What good is an 8GB secure flash drive if it can only encrypt 4GB? Especially when a vanilla flash drive of the same capacity is one half to one third of the price right here on Amazon.

Lexar JumpDrive Secure II Plus 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive JDSEP8GB-431 Reviews
Secure and usable . The secure features of this drive are easy to use and require little jumping through hoops. The built-in encryption application and mounts your password-protected partitions ("vaults") when you plug-in the device (configurable).
Other nice features:
-can be used as a normal flash drive without encryption
-nice bonus features: file shredder and individual file encryption
The only thing it's missing is a Linux client to allow access to secure areas on Linux.

Lexar JumpDrive Secure II Plus 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive JDSEP8GB-431 Opinions
Great little flash drive . I always tend to side with lexar flash drives, as I find them more reliable, and the memory display very useful. This little flash drive works great, and is useful for large files of video that I come in contact with as a film student, as I can't always carry my 500Gb hard drive around with me everywhere. Not to mentions flash will work in both Mac and PC, allowing me to move larger files from one to the other.
For a normal person though, 8GB is way over your practical range. Used to have a similar 2GB Lexar before it was stolen, and loved it; was more than enough for document and picture files than I could ever ask for.
Yes there are many other cheaper flash drives out there, but it's worth it for me to get a Lexar, and have faith that my files are that much more secure. As I said before, the memory display is also great, both for data management, and bragging rights.

Works like a champ! . I had the PNY 8Gb Attache and it jammed up with large file transfers and was a real pain as I wanted to use my flash drive as back up to My Documents. The Lexar works great and was pretty quick for the first transfter (~3Gb). The design is really smooth and fits in the hand well. The color is stylish (like the black...goes with my Thinkpad) and the capacity bar works as advertised. The "activity light" is a nice blue and it looks good with the all black stick. The sides curve in slightly (much like my Palm TX) and it's easy to remove the cap. That's one final point. The USB plug has a real cap that fully protects the connectors from dust and contamination. I don't like the new SanDisks as the USB plug retracts and doesn't protect it against dust, dirt and lint if you put it in your pocket.
Ease of Use and portable between XP and Mac . On an XP Box you can run the software for securing your vaults directly from the stick, making it all that more secure. It's a bit of a problem on the Mac, because you have to run the software as an application in the Applications folder. There are better sticks for the PC, that include a suite of secure software on the stick, but it is not portable to a Mac. So, if you need cross-platform performance, this is the only game in town. Well worth the price.
It's good . I had a Lexar 2GB drive and I really loved it. But the Secure/password protection was not working with Vista so I got the 8GB Flash Drive that works great with Windows vista. The only problem I had with this flash drive is that the material is not really durable. It fell from my hand few times and a small crack started on the cover and now the cover is broken. So I guess you need to be extra careful with it.
Lots of Storage for Backup Video Transfer . Had this product for a month now but I have had the 512 MB Secure II Drive before so all of the workings are familiar to me. If anything the software is easier to use and plugging and unpluggging more seamless other than the requisite password (used to require going thru the file system to activate, now the Dashboard is ready to use most all of the time)
Key feature is the 8x memory increase that allows me to transfer video files from Media Center, backup my laptop in realtime and also store more of my key files in the hardware encrypted security.
The only downside that is a minor is that I do not know if the realtime memory usage indicator is working properly as it always seems to indicate that I am using 40% when I am not.

Everything and then-some . Having recently read a blurb by some author on how he wrote his book using a secure flash drive, I decided to see what Amazon had in that category. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find this 8G Secure II actually does what it touts. The directions are sketchy so you sort of "figure" it out as you go. I did a test document, stored it, and then tried to "find" it and open it. The Secure II is great! If you are using your laptop on the fly, you can "toss" your document into the "vault" you create yourself. I like the fact that my documents aren't on my hard drive and are absolutely secure. Oh, I'm sure that there are hackers out there that make this kind of mechanism their main focus until they hack into it, but the average person would never be able to get into it. That's utterly reassuring!!
This is not an 8gb flashdrive . People who are 5 star raving about this flashdrive have not yet needed it for its advertised capacity. I still have XP Pro 32 bit in everything so the Windows 7 problem does not affect me.I just bought two of these as full backup devices for my two home PCs. Each PC needs approx 6gb of space to complete the backup. I figured at 8gb of capacity I was home free with room to spare; one drive for each PC. WRONG! At exactly 3.99gb, they quit taking data and were full. The results were the same whether used right out of the package, formatted quick or formatted slow. An encryption problem or not, it is deceptive marketing.I will now consider these as 4gb drives and use one and a half of them to backup one PC.

Cons Review
Obsolete encryption software . The Lexar Jumpdrive Secure II Plus is only worth the price if the encryption software works. The catch, which is not disclosed by Lexar unless you contact support and specifically inquire, is that it will not work with Windows 7. They have no plans to offer an update. In Windows 7 you will get a popup indicating that encryption is disabled. There are no fixes.
