It's a beautiful thing for a home with multiple computers :D . I ordered this external hard drive because it would make backing up files on my mother's HP desktop much easier than using DVD-R's. Not only was I able to back up said files quickly and easily, I was also able to copy a large back up file from my laptop onto it AND move some music files from my mother's old Compaq desktop onto it for temporary storage! Even better, there's still space left for future back ups! It's easy to use (just plug it into your machine's USB port) and whisper quiet. I may order one or two more of these (one for myself and another larger one strictly for computer back ups) in the future. I encourage everyone who needs an external hard drive to give this product a try, especially if you have a desktop with a big internal hard drive and/or don't like keeping up with dozens of CD-R's or DVD-R's.

Amazing: It's SO Small! . This is so small and so lite you could easily fit it in your shirt pocket. There is no power supply, other then just the USB. I keep looking at this unit in amazement compared to how big and heavy the HD's were just a very few years ago. I need this to store photos and it's the right size for me. Any bigger and it would be to difficult to manage all those files. I have always had a computer with two hard drives, but there is no reason for that now. Just plug this in for your back up or second drive and your good to go. My computer has crashed three times, but my storage & files were on the second drive, so I still have them. Now I have copyed them from my second drive onto this HD, so I can go buy a new computer if the one I have ever crashes again. It is not worth getting it fixed anymore. No more built in second hard drives for me, from now on the back up will be external. If it were any smaller I might be afraid I would lose it, so the size is just right.

Very nice product! . My brother-in-law got this for me to store pictures and video. It writes quickly, it's super quiet and it's unobtrusive. Great for what I need.

Great product for it's price . I needed something to transfer big fieles from one HD to another. Got this cheap little thing, already dropped it a few times and it still workds perfect. Just a little over 100Gigs for this price is great, will take slower than usual for transfer time, but for this price who cares.
Great little drive . This little drive is fantastic and has taken anything that I can throw at it. Many points worth noting:
1. It's small. Fits in any neoprene case.
2. Looks great. Matt black finish on the top so no fingerprint mess and any minor scuffs wont show.
3. QUIET. Can barely hear it whisper!
4. Decent write speeds.

great cheap drive . I got this like one of the other reviewers for twenty buck. For 120gb its much better amount of space I could get on a thumb drive albeit larger physical size. I use it for the kids movies when we travel - connected to a media player it works great.
Its a small size, gets power from its usb (so no extra power supply needed), works well. It comes with no software and formatted for PC. Its made by a well regarded company and has a year warranty.
I wouldn't pay more than thirty for this item at this time.
BTW you can later upgrade the drive if needed, there are videos on youtube on how to do it.

Handy reliable drive easily formatted for Mac use . You may wish to wait for additional discounts on this Western Digital drive, which is already reasonably priced. But the trend is to larger drives, and this one could soon be phased out at prices below some thumb drives. WD drives, to my mind, are unequaled in reputation and service among all external hard drives. This one is small, rugged, practically weightless, plain and purely functional. Amazon carries some generic colored carrying cases for 2 bucks and, though they're touted as GPS cases, they're an ideal fit for this drive, including a netting for storing the accompanying USB cord.

Cheap easy external HD option for Mac . It did not take me long to get this hard drive formatted for my Mac - maybe 5 minutes after downloading the instructions online. Cheap and easy to use out of the box. I'm very happy with this purchase.
great and small external HD . a small but great HD.Its rather small in HD space but if you will use it to back up information its more than enought.i bought it for for my daughter age 13
Cons Review
Would not recommend . My drive failed about 1 year after light use. It was mainly a backup for my MP3's...so my main use for it was when I was listening to music.I didn't carry it around much. It was actually pretty much placed on my work desk. The drive started creating the hard drive failure sound..you know..the clicking after about 6 months in. I contacted Western Digital support on this issue and it seemed my warranty expired 11 months into the 12 months. I never got a reply back from their support on why my warranty expired before a year (it has a one year warranty).Nevertheless, I will not be buying any Western Digital products ever again. Their support is just down right awful. I never got a response on the 5 emails I've sent and their phone support is just hideous. I would not recommend this hard drive for important data (which should be backed up in multiple places anyways). I lost a whole lot of music, but thankfully I had it backed up to my main desktop hard drive also.
